Removal of cloakroom G13b, and use of space beneath stair to supplement Best Staircase.

A Brief History

1740s Flitcroft arrangement likely to be similar to that recorded in 1819 which is similar to the panelling in the bottom flight of the stair at Wimpole Hall in Cambridgeshire (Flitcroft 17**).

By 1819 cupboard with access indicated beneath stair from G13a. 

No door to East Entrance Corridor G14.

By 1909, the 1819 arrangement still in place.

By 1942 shallow cupboard retained on stair side, remainder converted to cloakroom and door G14/d2 cut through to East Entrance G14

What's to do

Removal of cloakroom and panelling beneath first flight of stair to open up volume to main staircase.

In the hall, blocking up of door G14/d2.
